Privacy Policy

CharTaker is designed to respect your privacy. All character data is stored locally on your device. The only time data leaves your device is during multiplayer sessions (see below) and if you opt in to anonymous analytics.

Multiplayer Sessions

When you join or host a multiplayer session, the following data is temporarily shared:

• Character name and initiative — shared with other players in the same session room
• Encounter state — the GM broadcasts combat data (initiative order, health descriptors, conditions) to connected players
• Anonymous session token — a randomly generated identifier used to secure your session (not linked to your identity)

All session data is ephemeral — it is stored temporarily on Supabase servers during the session and deleted when the GM ends the session. No account creation is required. No session data is retained after the session ends.

Analytics Data Collection

If you opt in via the analytics toggle on the About page, CharTaker collects anonymous usage data through PostHog, a third-party analytics service, to help us improve the app.

What we collect

• A randomly generated anonymous ID (not linked to your identity)
• App usage events (e.g., character created, class/ancestry/theme choices, imported, or deleted)
• Error and crash reports to help fix bugs
• Session recordings with all text and input content masked

What We Do Not Collect

• Personal information (name, email, phone number, etc.)
• Your character data or any content you create
• Location data
• Device identifiers or advertising IDs

Your Choices

Analytics are opt-in only. You are asked for consent when you first open the app, and you can change your choice at any time using the Anonymous Analytics toggle on the About page.

When you opt out, no analytics data is collected or sent. Previously collected data is retained by PostHog per their standard data retention policy.

Third-Party Services

• PostHog — Analytics (opt-in only), hosted in the United States
• Supabase — Multiplayer session infrastructure, hosted in the United States. Only used during active sessions.

Data Storage

All character data, preferences, and settings are stored locally on your device using browser storage. Multiplayer session data is stored temporarily on Supabase servers during active sessions and deleted when the session ends. If you uninstall the app, all local data is deleted.
